Welcome to CameraCarl.com

I love photography but rarely I have then opportunity to be a photographer proper - to scout out a location and wait for the conditions and time to take that perfect shot. When I travel I like to take a lot of photos but time is limited and the light is rarely perfect. This is where Photoshop becomes my friend and quite ordinary photos can be turned into something quite special.

This site is dedicated to those who, like me, would love to have more time to devote to photography but are rarely able to find it. Over time this site will be stocked with photography and digital darkroom tips, tricks and tutorials. I hope you get as much fun out of this site as I have had creating it.

Latest News — Another New Toy

Well fellow photoholics, I've been saving my pennies and have just upgraded ye olde 75-300mm bottom of the range Canon EF lens with a supa-dupa but not quite top of the range Canon 300mm F4L monster.  I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but first impressions are very good.  A heavy and solidly built lens it has a very smooth operation and the bonus of an in-built lens hood. Even better, the lens has a 77mm filter screw so all the filters from my 240105mmF4L can be used on this lens too!

I hope to have some images to show you soon and will compare my new supa dupa lens with my old 75-300mm kit lens. At almost 8 times the price I am more than 8 times happier with my new lens.

Keep on clicking...

20/10/2011 — Adding a vintage look to a photo
Sometimes you take that photo that, apart from its colour, is rather anachronistic. Back in 2005 I was at the Flying Legends Airshow at IMW Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Spitfires, hurricanes, B17 and Lancaster bombers were a few of the aircraft flying that day. But what made this visit even more special were the number of flyers and ground crew wearing period costumes. Standard colour photos of such events does not look right. So, with a few minutes on my hands and a fiddle in photoshop I take an 'average' colour photo and turn it into something a bit more classic....  View Tutorial
