Adding a vintage look to a photo

In this tutorial I will show you how to take a conventional colour photo and make it look as if it were taken 60 years ago.

Creating this effect is quite easy and involves only a few steps. By following the tutorial below you will gain some insight on using layers, filters, adjustment layers and blend modes. The main steps are:

  1. Convert colour image to black and white;

  2. Add scratches;

  3. Add film grain;

  4. Add a sepia tone;

  5. Add a worn and grungy border.

For this tutorial we make use of some free borders that PhotoRadar.com have made available for all. Please visit PhotoRadar.com and take a good look at their site. The actual borders can be found here.
